Hunter USG has become the first CUNY to join a coalition of over 50 collegiate student governments across New York State to support the passage of the College Student Suicide Prevention Act (CSSPA). This upcoming November marks two years since artificial intelligence (AI) software ChatGPT launched, ushering in a new age of technology long in the making. April 19 marks the annual Muse Showcase, where Hunter scholars from the creative arts program come together to host a show displaying their talents in acting, sketch comedy, and even their own songs (or “diddys” as scholar Ariana Lopez refers to it). The Queer Student Union (QSU) is a club that hosts events for the queer community on campus and provides LGBTQ Hunter students with a “third place,” a concept in sociology for a space where someone can relax and socialize away from the two primary places: their home and work. Offered for the first time this past fall, and currently being taught during the spring 2024 semester, “College to Career: Get Hired!” is a two-credit media course taught by Professor Jeanie Ahn that prepares junior and senior students for internships and job opportunities in media. Hunter’s administration has indefinitely suspended enrollment in the humanities-based Athena Honors Program. The Hawks took on the undefeated Baruch College in a showdown to potentially decide first place in the conference for volleyball. With the Commissioner’s Cup scores growing closer between the two schools, this game was vital to potentially swinging the momentum in Hunter’s favor. In 2023, a little over 10% of the student body voted in the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) elections, said Miesha Smith, the director of student life at Hunter. Even fewer ran for office. For the past few weeks, track athletes have made all-stars, the men’s volleyball team scored big wins, all while David Horn of @whcsradio interviewed star athletes and even Hunter’s British-born head athletic trainer. Hunter students are looking to FOUND Study in the Midtown East neighborhood as the next best housing alternative, facing the imminent demolition of the Brookdale dormitory. Hunter’s Career Center transition to Handshake as the primary job-searching platform has sparked discussions among students exploring new pre-professional opportunities offered by the college. With everything on the line, four Hawks teams came up short in the playoffs despite some great performances over the week.
