ASAP Ferg will perform at this year’s spring concert, announced USG President Kamalpreet Kaur at Friday’s Valentine’s-themed Just Desserts event. USG also announced the winner of Hunter Idol, Janine Moises, adding that she will have a chance to open for the rapper from Harlem at the concert on April 2.
“I feel amazing,” said the singer and pianist after learning that she won. “My parents wanted me to go through the medical path, but I just chose my passion, which is music, and here I am!”
Moises also looks forward to opening for ASAP Ferg, calling it “an amazing opportunity.” Previous musicians who’ve played at Hunter’s spring concert include Fetty Wap in 2015 and Tory Lanez in 2017.
Tickets will be available for purchase beginning March 9, said Kaur.
The finalists for Hunter Idol performed on Monday before President Jennifer Raab, Dean Eija Ayravainen and Director of Student Life Miesha Smith in an event that was livestreamed on Facebook. Moises’s rendition of “Hallelujah” begins about four minutes into the livestream.
After the event on Monday, students were able to vote online. Over one thousand votes were cast, said emcee Hardik Bhaskar.
Before USG announced the Hunter Idol winner, the finalists performed for the Just Desserts audience, showing off their powerful vocals and original songwriting. Students momentarily stopped eating their cupcakes so that they could sing along.
“It only goes up from here,” said Moises.
